During the ninth month of the Islamic calendar year, Muslims abstain from eating and drinking from sunrise to sunset as an act of soul purification, self-sacrifice and as a way to refocus their attention on God. This practice is part of the Muslim religious holy period, known as Ramadan, and is paused each evening after sunset, with the iftar meal. This year, employees from companies held by Garant Holding gave out water, water plums and chicken for this post-sunset meal during Ramadan, just as they have in years past. The annual tradition was put into place by Garant Holding’s Chairman of the Board, Anar Mammadov as a way to help honour the Muslims, their religious beliefs and their month-long vigil of strict fasting.
Garant Holding employees served iftar from mobile tents as well as through the distribution of food at traffic lights. The tents were set up alongside the subway entrance in the Yasamal District, with the support of the Yasamal District’s executive powers. This year, on the first day of Ramadan nearly 350 people were served within the first 30 minutes. About 2,500 people were served on the second day, with servings continued to be given out throughout Ramadan.
Of the food served, Mərcan chicken and Yarsu beverages were given out to men, women and children, under the slogan, “Garant Holding, Mərcan and Yarsu Invite You for Iftar,” while the Mərcan chicken mascot was in attendance to entertain and delight the children. Both Mərcan chicken and Yarsu still and sparkling water are products of the agri-business group of Garant Holding.
